American Western Awards sold promotional products and awards, and the site was built around a catalogue problem that is more interesting than it first appears: how someone shops when they do not yet know what they want.
Promotional product buying is unusual. A customer typically arrives with a situation rather than a product in mind — an event to commemorate, a team to recognise, a conference giveaway to source. They are not searching for a specific item; they are looking for something appropriate. A conventional product search assumes the buyer already knows the answer, which here they usually do not.
The site addresses this with two parallel browsing paths: shop by theme and shop by category. Theme-based browsing supports the buyer working from an occasion or aesthetic and open to suggestion. Category browsing serves the buyer who knows the product type and wants to compare options. Offering both, rather than forcing everyone through a single taxonomy, matches the two genuinely different mental models customers bring to this category.
The tagline framing — promotional products, realize the potential — is given its own section addressing what promotional products are actually for. In a category where the buyer is often a marketing or office manager justifying spend internally, making the case for the medium itself is a real part of the sale.
The build carries a substantial product image set, which is unavoidable here: promotional products are bought on appearance, and a catalogue without strong photography cannot function.
This project is shown from an archived capture. The original site is no longer operating at its own domain, so the archive link is provided as a design reference and is not a live storefront.
Repeat business is the economic engine in promotional products — an organisation that orders for one annual event usually orders again the following year, often for the same occasion. Keeping past categories and themes easy to return to serves that returning buyer, who frequently wants something close to what they ordered last time rather than a fresh search from scratch.
